Counting ends

COUNTING for the 2015 ABG General Elections is now complete.

This follows the declarations of the last two seats, north regional seats for women and former combatants a few minutes ago.

In the north regional former combatants seat saw Mr Ben Malatan Korus being declared member-elect by Returning Officer Peter Wanga.

He received 13, 731 votes while Mr Francis Boisivere came second with 11, 868 votes.

Both candidates had been running neck-to-neck since the start of counting until the twelve and final exclusive which resulted in Mr Korus winning the race.

In the north regional women seat, Ms Francisca Semoso was declared winner defeating Hellen Siumana after the eighth and final exclusive process.

Ms Semoso received 13, 627 votes while Hellen Siumana collected 13, 111 votes.

Hellen Siumana had been leading the race since the primary counts until the eight exclusion when Ms Semoso overtook her to claim the North Bougainville women’s seat.

Ms Semoso is not new to the ABG parliament as she was the first leader to occupy the North Bougainville women’s seat following her victory in the 2005 ABG General Elections.

Apart from the North Region former combatants’ seat, the Central Region former combatants’ seat was won by Noah Doko while Thomas Tarii is the new member-elect for the South Region former combatants’ seat.

The Central Region women’s seat was won by Marcelline Kokiai while Isabel Peta is the new member for South Region women’s seat.

Meanwhile, writs for the 2015 ABG General Elections will be returned tomorrow afternoon.

The acting Bougainville Electoral Commissioner, Mr George Manu will be returning the writs to ABG Speaker Andrew Miriki at the ABG parliament chamber at 4pm.

The return of writs will mark the completion of the 2015 ABG General Elections.
